MyBC Course Sites discontinued starting spring quarter 2013

Don’t worry, MyBC isn’t going away. However,  starting spring quarter, the service known as MyBC Course Sites will be phasing out.   The Information Resources department will continue to make MyBC Course Site archives available to instructors and students–so you can access your previously used content from the past 5 quarters.  We will eventually remove these archives but not until instructors who have used this resource regularly in the past have transitioned fully over to using Canvas.

We’d like to answer some anticipated questions for faculty.  If you have questions that are not covered in this article, please contact us and we’ll do our best to keep this page updated.

What happens to my old MyBC Course Sites?

A:  Nothing right away. You can continue to access MyBC Course Sites you’ve created and/or used back through summer quarter 2011. Eventually, we will delete thsese archived sites, but we know as an instructor, you’ll need time to figure out how to best transition your materials over into Canvas. We’ll keep the archived sites in place for now and will give you advance warning when the time comes to delete them permanently.

Why are MyBC Course Sites going away?

A:  The short answer is:  It’s just not a service that is easy to manage or provide reliability for any longer.  MyBC Course Sites are built on top of Microsoft SharePoint which is way overdue for an upgrade. The customizations that were implemented in order to maintain MyBC Course Sites require more time than is possible for us to manage. Plus, Canvas provides equal, if not better tools for sharing documents and providing a secure space to share materials from teacher to student.

How do I get help moving my MyBC Course Site content to Canvas?

A:  Start with the Canvas Faculty Orientation by going to http://bellevuecollege.edu/canvas. The faculty orientation has been updated recently to assist instructors who have previosuly used MyBC Course Sites who are moving to Canvas.  Additional hands-on training will be provided for teachers now throughout spring quarter. Check the MyBC Training calendar for the next upcoming sessions.
