As part of the Smart Printing practice, Information Resources is offering for a limited time the opportunity to trade in your Desktop Printer for a 19″ monitor to help reduce the environmental impact of personal desktop printers. These monitors are available at no cost for a limited time. For those wanting to take advantage of this offer please submit a Request Center Ticket under Technology > Printer
Studies have show that the addition of a second monitor to your desktop or laptop reduces the need to print and increases productivity. With a second monitor you can move a spreadsheet to another window or span across multiple windows instead of printing.
For those occasional print jobs, we will be more than happy to connect you to the nearest network printer or Sharp copier or you can follow these instructions on how to do it yourself.

DELL 19″ Standard Aspect Monitor
This monitor can be used on desktops, laptops, and some tablets.
Any Personal Desktop printer that is taking up energy and resources. The printer can be working or not, our goal is to reduce the amount of these type of printers on campus.
Currently the is an excessive amount of small personal desktop printers on campus. These type of printers are the most expensive to maintain for an organization as large as Bellevue College. The cost per page for a small printer is often times 200% higher than a large workgroup network printer or multi function copier.
A network workgroup printer would typically be shared between 30 or more individuals. This setup is ideal because it means less power consumption, less printing supplies, and less paper that need to be spent on ONE device as opposed to 30 individual devices.
Yes as long as your computer can handle a third monitor we can install it for you. Most computers on campus won’t handle more than 3 monitors.
Yes as long as you have departmental approval to remove that shared resource. Our goal is to reduce the amount of small printers on campus.
We are currently only offering the 19″ model as a no cost trade in, if you require a larger monitor you may trade up to a bigger size by covering the difference in cost.
You can either cover the cost of a replacment 19″ monitor for your 17″ monitor or you can trade in 2 personal desktop printers.
It will depend if both computers can handle the different monitors, some monitors use different cable to connect to a computer. We would discourage this type of swapping and suggest purchasing matched monitors.
While personal desktop printers offer some sense of security, network workgroup printers are much more secure. Most of the Sharp copiers can be setup with secure printing whereby the print out does not get printed without a secure code. This infact creates a 2 layer security where you need your password to log into a computer to send a print job and a code to release that job from the printer. Small desktop printers don’t have this security setting therefore secure documents can be left out for suspecting passers by to view or take. A lot of medical agencies with strict guidelines don’t allow ANY personal desktop printing because it is not secure.
