Certified Specialist in Heathcare Information and Management Systems (CAHIMS)
The National Science Foundation, Bellevue College, and HIMSS have partnered to develop an entry-level technician certification to expand access to the field of health information technology.
Timeline
2010 - NSF Award to Bellevue College and HIMSS
2011 - Certification and exam development / Curriculum development
2012/2013 - Exam pilot / Certification launch
2014 – Certification and curriculum offered in higher education and professional venues nationwide
- CAHIMS illuminates a path into health IT careers. Community college and high school students, as well as veterans and others new to the field will use it to navigate a career starting point. It will signal an applicant’s job readiness to employers.
- Curriculum to assist in preparation for the CAHIMS exam will be freely available and nationally disseminated.
- HIMSS will administer the credential, as part of its commitment to help foster a ready workforce for health IT employers.
