Printing

Students begin each school quarter with a $15 printing credit, which is allocated from the technology fee you pay for classes you take. This credit is in force for the duration of the quarter, which means that any money left over from the quarter will not carry over into the next quarter, nor is it refundable. This applies both to the original $15 credit and any funds you might subsequently add to the balance. You can check your printing balance and add funds, if you need to.

Details

Each time you print something using school printers, an amount of money, depending on what you print, is deducted from the total. These printing costs are posted in the labs and are displayed in PaperCut each time you release a job to the print queue.

You can check your printing balance by

  • Looking at the small green window, labeled “Balance for <your username>”, that appears on the computer Desktop each time you log in using school computers. This is the PaperCut program, through which all of your printing activity is tracked. Click “Details…” for more information about the items you printed.

The PaperCut printing balance window

  • Logging in to any Print Release Station, where PaperCut is installed. You can see any print jobs waiting to be released to the printing queue, as well as history for what you have printed in the past, and what it cost.

For students anticipating the need to add funds to their printing balances (Interior Design and Engineering students, in particular), it’s important to plan ahead and correctly gauge the additional funds you will need and add them enough in advance of the time you will need them (finals, for instance) so you don’t find yourself unable to print.

To add funds to your printing balance:

  • Go to Room N250 (the main computer lab) and either pay cash at the desk to one of the lab assistants in the amount you want to increase your balance, or use the coin-and-bills receptacle located in the center of the room, next to a Print Release Station that enables you to add funds. If you don’t have cash, the alternative is to use the ATM located just outside room N250 to get some, and then proceed to N250. No credit/debit card payments can be made at this location: cash only.
  • Go to the PALS center at Room C106. The PALS center accepts credit/debit card payments to add funds to your available printing balance.

Important Reminder: When adding funds to your printing balance, keep in mind that these funds won’t roll over at the end of the quarter, and you won’t be able to get a refund. Add only the funds you need for printing to the end of the quarter.

Frequently Asked Questions

My printout jammed. Can I get a refund?

Yes. If your printout jammed (or misprinted due to problems with the printer), immediately notify a Lab Assistant, wo can assist you with fixing the problem and crediting your account.

I deposited $20 for print credits, but I will only need to use $10. Can I get a refund on the unused credit?

No. Print credits have no cash value, and we do not have the ability to provide refunds. Deposit only what you have calculated you will need during the quarter.

I did not use any of my free print credits for Winter quarter. Can I get those credits moved over to Spring quarter?

No. Print credits are not transferable.

I am a BC student and an EWU student. Do I get double print credits?

Yes. If you pay a technology fee for both campuses, you are entitled to receive additional print credits. You will need to identify yourself to a Lab Assistant to receive your additional print credits.

Can I pay for additional print credits online?

No, so be sure to plan ahead for any printing needs you might have that will exceed your $15 quarterly allowance. You can use a credit/debit card to pay for additional credits by visiting the PALS Center in Room C106 during regular PALS Center hours (Fall through Spring, 7:30 AM-7:00 PM M-Th, 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM F). You can use cash only at the main computer lab (Room N250) during open hours. If you are printing after opening hours for these two payment locations (for instance, in the run-up to finals), you will not be able to add to your printing funds.
